Food safety

Some of our key tasks are to:

  • undertake Food Hygiene and Food Standards inspections at a frequency determined by risk assessment or otherwise in compliance with statute law or centrally issued guidance
  • investigate food complaints
  • carry out a Food Sampling programme and other sampling activities
  • maintain records and report on our activities at required intervals.
  • check all ship cargo manifests, to monitor movement of foodstuffs and to implement sampling or regulatory actions where appropriate
  • inspect ships and issue certificates as necessary
  • ensure the availability of food hygiene education and training
  • investigate all notified cases of Food Poisoning or similar illness in conjunction with Forth Valley Health Board
  • enforce the ban on smoking in enclosed public spaces
