Forestry Commission grant aid

Tree planting
Earlier this year Falkirk Council was awarded grant aid by the Forestry Commission to carry out woodland management work in the park. This will be centred on the woodland in the north-west corner of the park and will include fencing, path construction, installation of signs, tree felling, grassland management and installation of gates and dog waste bins. It is anticipated the work will start in late January or early February 2007.

Recently the park management group have produced a newsletter with some very interesting articles about the park, news of the logo competition run through the local primary schools, and some views from users of the park.

Printed copies of the newsletter can be obtained from Ian Edwards (telephone 01324 504714), or it can be downloaded from this page.

Nature news

About ten years ago the park was surveyed by an ecologist and a list of plant and bird species found was prepared. Since then these records have been updated on an ad hoc basis and the total of birds and plants on the site now stands at over 250 species.

During a recent visit this list was increased when redpoll, snipe and mistle thrush were spotted. If you have any details of unusual sightings please let us know. Also there is little information on the different kinds of invertebrates that live in the park so if you have any expertise in this field and would be willing to do a bit of survey work we would be pleased to hear from you. Contact details as shown.
