Conservation Areas
The Planning (Listed Buildings and Conservation Areas)(Scotland) Act 1997 states that conservation areas "are areas of special architectural or historic interest, the character or appearance of which it is desirable to preserve or enhance".
Grange Terrace (Bo'ness) Conservation Area was designated by Falkirk District Council in 1984.
Conservation Area Appraisal
Government guidance advises that appraisals of conservation areas are required "from time to time".
In addition, Falkirk Council's approved Built Heritage Strategy places an emphasis and priority on conservation areas and includes a phased programme of conservation area appraisals.
A conservation area appraisal:
-
identifies the key features which make the area special
-
identifies measures to protect and enhance the area
-
provides a tool for managing the special character of the area
-
can serve as supplementary planning guidance
-
ensures that the form and design of new development adds to and does not detract from the special character of the area
Grange Conservation Area Appraisal was approved by Falkirk Council on 09 August 2011.
Conservation Area Management Plans
The purpose of the Council's conservation area management plans is to advise property owners, occupiers and agents on their responsibilities when developing, or making alterations, to land and premises in the conservation area. In particular a) the policies and procedures to be followed, and b) the design standards expected.
A Conservation Area Management Plan for the Grange Conservation Area will be produced in 2011.
