The Bo’ness Local Plan covers the town of Bo’ness and its immediate hinterland, an area of 21.9 square kilometers with a population of 14,200.
Adopted in October 1995, it is based on a strategy of regeneration, which was to be achieved by controlled growth, economic diversification and environmental quality. Important components include:
-
the allocation of major residential and business sites at Drum and Kinglass Farms on the south east side of the town
-
maintenance and extension of the Green Belt around the south of the town
-
encouraging town centre revitalisation through physical enhancement
-
providing sites for heritage based tourism
-
addressing coastal defence issues
-
protecting the town’s rich architectural heritage
-
encouraging better utilisation of the dock, harbour and foreshore areas.
A monitoring report produced in December 2001 contains a review of progress on the implementation of the plan.
