The Grangemouth Local Plan covers the town of Grangemouth and its immediate hinterland, an area of 22.9 square kilometers with a population of 18,400.
The plan was adopted in 1985, with minor alterations having been undertaken in 1987 and 1990. The strategy of the plan was one of ‘stabilisation’, with no further expansion of the urban area permitted and the Green Belt protected. Substantial land was nonetheless allocated for the expansion of the chemical and petrochemical industries in the town.
A monitoring report produced in December 2001 contains a review of progress on the implementation of the plan.
