The Polmont and District Local Plan covers the settlements of Polmont, Laurieston, Brightons, Rumford, Maddiston, Redding, Westquarter, Wallacestone, Redding and Reddingmuirhead, and the surrounding countryside.
Adopted in December 2001, it is based on a strategy of selective growth which attempts to direct new housing growth to areas which have the landscape and infrastructure capacity to accommodate it. Important components include:
-
major new greenfield housing sites at Sunnyside Road, Redding Park (Nobel Site) and Parkhall Farm, in addition to the large established site at Overton Farm
-
the allocation of a strategic inward investment site at Gilston;
-
maintenance of the green belt
-
safeguarding and promoting key countryside access routes
-
protecting and enhancing existing local centres for convenience shopping and local services
-
making provision for the Millennium Link and associated canal related development opportunities.
A monitoring report produced in December 2001 contains a review of progress on the implementation of the plan.
