The Rural Local Plan covers all the countryside of the Falkirk Council area outwith the boundaries of the main settlements, including 19 village communities.
Adopted in November 1994, it provided a comprehensive statement of planning policy for the countryside. The plan is based on a strategy of key village development and rural enhancement. The villages of Airth, Avonbridge and Slamannan were identified for growth, whilst the remainder were earmarked only for small scale and infill development. The plan encouraged diversification of the rural economy and sought to improve the image and attractiveness of the rural areas through a range of policies and proposals.
A monitoring report produced in February 2002 contains a review of progress on the implementation of the plan.
