Falkirk Council’s Outdoor Access Strategy focuses on non-motorised outdoor access. It aims to address the needs and aspirations of people of all ages and abilities and reflects the increasing priority of access issues with the enactment of the Land Reform (Scotland) Act 2003.
Walking, cycling, horse riding and canoeing are not only great for recreation and enjoying the countryside, they are also important ways to improve health, support sustainable transport, and help you achieve a better overall quality of life. This is why creating, upgrading, maintaining and promoting our paths is so important.
Falkirk Council’s vision is:
To create a well-used, high quality recreational resource, which will encourage healthier lifestyles, strengthen community identities, improve appreciation of the environment, and add to the range of visitor attractions across the council area.
This vision will be achieved by:
-
providing a functional and recreational path network around and between settlements, with links to local facilities and key visitor attractions
-
promoting and maintaining the path network encouraging its use by local people and visitors to the area
People want paths and it is important that local communities and other groups and organisations work together with Falkirk Council to bring forward local path proposals. The strategy provides a structure so we can join forces with and meet the needs of path users, communities and land managers.
