Falkirk Local Climate Impact Profile

Summary

The Falkirk Local Climate Impact Profile (LCLIP) looks at the impact of severe weather events over the last 10 years on the Falkirk Council area. It will examine the actual impact of the events on the council's operations, local businesses, partners and communities.

Information gathering

Information will be gathered from council officers, community partners and from national and local press. This will provide an overview of impacts of weather events such as cost of physical repairs, disruption to services, people hours involved, disruption to people's lives and economic impact.

Analysis

The next step will to quantify the impacts of the events. This is a very localised project, looking only at real life impact of severe weather events, and will not look at the bigger picture of climate change.

Using the outputs

The real life data will be combined with recently released computer models which attempt to predict how the climate of areas such as Falkirk will change over the next few decades. It will be provided to officers, partners, businesses, communities and local members to help them plan to cope with severe weather events which are increasing in frequency and severity.

Local knowledge

As part of this study we hope to gather information from residents of the Falkirk area with recollections of the impact of extreme weather events on themselves and their community. If you have a recollection of an event you feel is relevant please contact Mike Simpson at the e-mail address/phone number shown.
