How to get involved in sustainable development

The sustainable development of the Falkirk Council area is the responsibility of everybody that lives or works in it. If your company, school, community group or organisation would like to be involved, we’d be delighted to hear from you.
Ten common sense steps to sustainability
  1. Use energy wisely: don’t leave electronic items on standby.
  2. Turn everything off before you leave the office/house.
  3. See if you can carshare to work or use an alternative to the car even one day a week.
  4. Take a shower instead of a bath; it uses about one third of the water and energy.
  5. Think before you buy: does that electronic item have a good energy rating? It will pay its way quickly if it does.
  6. Leave a small part of your garden wild to encourage wildlife e.g. a woodpile or let the grass grow a little longer.
  7. Ask for Fairtrade products in cafes, restaurants, hotels, shops.
  8. Get your office to recycle paper, cans, bottles etc.
  9. Buy locally to support local business, and try to by products that haven't been flown great distances.
  10. Cut back on packaging: challenge shops that self package their goods and take carrier bags only when you need to.
