Our vision
Our vision is for the Falkirk area community to become a dynamic but sustainable community with a good quality of life resulting from a healthy environment, prosperous economy and inclusive society, with development of each element being to the benefit of the others.
What does sustainable development mean?
It means economic development without compromising quality of life for people or damaging the environment. It means that you can have a prosperous economy, inclusive society and a healthy environment, recognising that if one of these elements is out of balance, it can have a negative impact on the other two.
"Development which meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their needs." (The Brundtland Commission)
Sustainable development in Falkirk
Many other agencies are addressing aspects of sustainable development but Falkirk Council has assumed the lead role in seeking to co-ordinate local activity and develop sustainability partnerships. It aims to do this through the Sustainable Falkirk Strategy|. The strategy aims to involve everyone that lives or works in the Falkirk area by raising their awareness and involvement in sustainability good practice. Examples of local initiatives can be found in the Local projects| section.
