The Engineering Design Unit comprises three teams, Roads Design, Bridge & Structural Design and Street Lighting with responsibilities for the following functions:

design, construction supervision and project management of the Council’s capital road, bridge and lighting schemes

structural and geotechnical design

drainage and Sustainable Urban Drainage design

inspection, maintenance and repair of the Council’s bridge and retaining wall stock

inspection, maintenance and repair of the Council’s lighting stock
-
traffic management scheme implementation
-
flood prevention scheme design
-
land surveying and deed plans.
Project management
All road, bridge and lighting schemes undertaken by the Engineering Design Unit are project managed from conception through design to construction including liaison with the public, local members, emergency services and other external bodies.
Quality assurance
All these operations are carried out by the Engineering Design Unit under a Quality Assured Management System to ISO 9001 with BSI certification as shown.
