Street lighting for new developments

New street lighting developments
Before work can start on the construction of a new road, a Roads Construction Consent must be obtained from Falkirk Council as the Roads Authority under the terms of Section 21 of the Roads (Scotland) Act 1984. The Roads Construction Consent will not be issued until the full, detailed Planning Consent is issued.

The Roads Construction Consent will be initially valid for a period of three years after which, if the work has not been completed, an application for renewal will be required.

The developer is responsible for the provision of the road lighting installation on roads and footpaths that are to be adopted by the Council, any necessary alterations to lighting plant on existing roads and on any existing road subject to traffic calming or traffic management.

The developer will be responsible for the following:

  • lighting and electrical design
  • supply and installation of all equipment
  • painting of lighting columns and other street furniture
  • testing and commissioning of the complete installation
  • maintenance of the installation until adoption of the roads.

We can, upon request, supply developers with a comprehensive quotation for a road lighting design service and / or a road lighting installation service.

Developers may apply for a quotation by completing form CC8 which is included in the Road Construction Consent application forms| available from Roads and Development unit.
