The Council's statutory duties for flood prevention are set out in the Flood Prevention and Land Drainage (Scotland) Act 1997.
The main requirements are that the Council should:

record all incidents of flooding where properties have been affected by flood
-
assess watercourses
-
maintain and cleanse watercourses where such works will significantly reduce the likelihood of flooding of properties
Flood report assessments
All watercourses in non agricultural areas are assessed to identify conditions likely to pose a flood risk.
Liaising with landowners, the council will initiate maintenance and clearing operations where failure to act would increase the risk of flooding.
Development Services is responsible for producing a Flood Report for the Council area every two years. You can download copies of the Flood Reports below:
Flooding emergencies
In flooding emergencies the Council will:

work with the Police, Fire and Rescue services in response to severe flooding

deal with road closures (except trunk roads)

co-ordinate reception centres for people evacuated from their homes and arrange temporary accommodation if appropriate

co-ordinate action in the aftermath of flood
This will involve other Council services including Corporate & Neighbourhood Services, Social Work Services and the Emergency Planning/Civil Contingences team|.
