Roads & Development Unit is responsible for the management of the road network, except for road maintenance which is controlled by the Roads service of Corporate & Commercial Services (see Roads maintenance|).
The unit has three teams:
Development Control & Flooding Team is responsible for:

control over road development through road construction consents and input to the planning process
-
flood prevention and the two yearly flood reports
Network Team is responsible for managing the road network by:
-
regulating public utility roadworks under the New Roads and Street Works Act
-
maintaining the list of public roads and the local street gazetteer, allocating postal address to new developments and changes of address on request
-
traffic management measures to control traffic flow, road signs and markings, design and maintenance of traffic signals
-
public car parks and on-street parking including allocating on street disabled parking bays
Construction Support Team provides advice and guidance on the statutory functions that have to be taken into account when projects are being designed and constructed. This covers:

applying the Construction, (Design and Management) Regulations (CDM)
-
Disability Discrimination Act (DDA) including improving access to council buildings by disabled persons
-
gas safety
-
asbestos regulations
-
guidance on sustainable construction design and technology
Roads Services| in Corporate & Commercial Services are responsible for the maintenance and construction of the Falkirk Council area road network. This includes fencing and grass cutting on verges, traffic control, winter maintenance and the emergency response service for roads and footpaths.
