Traffic signs
The Roads and Development Unit’s Network Support Team authorizes all traffic signs on the Council’s roads.
Traffic signs serve many purposes such as directing traffic to destinations, including tourist attractions, controlling the direction of traffic and warning of hazards and restrictions.
Signs must be properly designed and located so as to assist in road safety while conveying their information. Unauthorized signs that are poorly designed or badly located are potentially dangerous and will be removed.
Control of traffic movements and on-street parking
Lines and signs are used to control traffic movements and on-street parking habits. Traffic Orders provide the legal framework for the Police to take action against errant vehicles and their drivers. All enforcement of on-street parking is carried out by Central Scotland Police.
All new signs and lines are provided by the Roads and Development unit and then maintained by the Roads service of Corporate & Neighbourhood Services.
Disabled parking bays
People with disabilities may apply for a parking space to be marked off on the street close to their home. This will be granted to those applicants who meet the Council’s criteria. The space can, however, be used by anyone with a disabled parking blue badge. A space cannot be reserved for the sole use of the applicant.
Unfortunately, it may take up to six months for the space to be approved and implemented due to the legal process required.
Contact the Roads & Development Network Team if you wish to apply for a space.
Traffic signals
Traffic signals are an important traffic management tool in regulating the flow of traffic at junctions and aiding pedestrians in crossing roads.
There are over 40 junctions and pedestrian crossings with traffic signals within the Falkirk Council area which are the responsibility of the Network Team.
Any faults or defects to these permanent signals should be reported to Clarence by calling 0800 232323.
