Local bus services

Falkirk Council is determined to make travel by bus easier for everyone and particularly for elderly and disabled people. A large number of buses have now been fitted with additional easy-grip, colour contrast handrails, palm-operated bell pushes and other features to make travel easier.

Operators of contracted local bus services for the Council also have to comply with increasingly tight conditions demanding lower steps as well as the above features. A number of the operators in the area are also investing in vehicles which are much more user friendly.

These improvements should make it easier for you if you have found bus travel a struggle in the past. However if you use a wheelchair or cannot manage any steps, most buses will still not meet your needs. One exception is the EasyBoarder bus service operated on behalf of Falkirk Council.

EasyBoarder Service

This is a fully accessible local bus service designed to meet everyone's needs. It has a single, very low step, flat floor and powered ramp or passenger lift mounted in the doorway. Wheelchairs are held securely in place, there are good handrails and the drivers are helpful and specially trained for the job.

Normal bus fares apply including concessions. If you are a registered Dial-A-Journey user or Taxicard holder, you can travel at a quarter fare.

For further information or an EasyBoarder timetable please contact the Transport Planning Unit.
