Minimising commercial waste
This section gives you tips and advice on how to create less waste at work by reducing and reusing your waste.
Producing less waste in the first place and reusing waste that we cannot prevent, will help conserve raw materials and reduce landfill disposal. Although recycling has benefits, eventually we want to be able to prevent waste at source to reduce consumption of natural resources and energy use.
Tips to help you reduce and reuse waste at work:

Use both sides of paper by printing and photocopying documents using the double-sided setting and using the reverse side of unwanted paper for scrap.

Reuse old envelopes for internal office mail.

Where possible, use recycled stationery products.

Return printer cartridges and ribbons and toner cartridges to be reused, for example contact Redeem on 08712 505050.

Start an office recycling scheme or office amnesty event (see Friends of the Earth's green office plan for more information).

Use solar-powered calculators to reduce hazardous waste from batteries.

Use solvent-free correction fluid.

Purchase products with recycled content, for example plastic sacks for waste
