Attendance at Nursery

The policy of Falkirk Council is to secure a nursery place for all children in their ante preschool year, their pre-school year and to provide for children with additional support needs. Further details can be found on the Ante and Pre-school places| page and also the Pre-school education| page.

Application, information and advice is available from the Falkirk Childcare Information Service|, including the location of nurseries and commissioned partner nurseries in your area.

Parents can apply for a place in a nursery for their child at any time after the child's second birthday. 

Application forms must be returned to your first choice nursery by the appropriate date. Parents are encouraged to indicate a second and third choice of nursery.

Application Process

Application forms will be collated by each nursery and places allocated according to the allocation procedures.

Parents will be asked to provide proof of birth date, eg birth certificate. Parents may also be asked to provide valid proof that the address given for the child is the address at which they are ordinarily resident.

Allocation Procedures

Parents' preferences for allocation of 5 morning places or 5 afternoon places or another agreed pattern should be taken into account wherever possible.

Head Teachers and managers will inform parents by letter, indicating that a place has been allocated for their child.

Where a place is not available, a letter stating this will be sent to the parent confirming that a copy of their application form has been passed to their 2nd or 3rd choice nursery.

Admission Procedures

Head Teachers and Managers should inform parents of the arrangements for induction of children.

Entry for new children to nursery is phased to benefit the children and families.

All children returning to nursery should start on the first day of term. Children new to the nursery should be phased in as soon as possible but no later that the end of the third week of term.
