Ladeside Primary School Parent Council

“Changes are a-comin’ . . . ”
When it comes to how parents have a say in school affairs, Elvis is right!

Here is how the new Parental Involvement Act affects you.

This new law makes it:

  • easier to have a say in school affairs
  • easier to address matters of interest or concern

You can have a say in how the Parent Council should be set up at Ladeside Primary School. You can be part of the Steering group that will set up the Parent Council.  You might even want to be in the Parent Council! You are already a member of the Parent Forum at Ladeside Primary School.

As a member of the Parent Forum you can expect to:

  • get information about what your child is learning
  • get information about events and activities at the school
  • get advice/help on how you can support your child’s learning
  • be told about opportunities to be involved in the schoolhave a say in selecting a Parent Council to work on behalf of all parents at your school.

The detail of what a Parent Council does will be decided by parents, but the Act lays down certain functions which can be summarised as four broad areas:

  • supporting the school in its work with pupils
  • representing the views of parents
  • promoting contact between the school, parents, pupils, providers of nursery education and the community
  • reporting to the Parent Forum.
