Active Schools is a national initiative, present in both primary and secondary schools, aimed at developing a healthy, active attitude and lifestyle in children both now and into adulthood.
It is part of the Scottish Executive’s plan to improve the health of the population through physical activity, as outlined in the National Physical Activity Strategy: Let’s Make Scotland More Active and is a key element in achieving the target of ensuring that every school in Scotland is Health Promoting by 2007.
In Falkirk Council there are eight Active Schools Co-ordinators (Primary) who co-ordinate the physical activity programme in the 48 Primary Schools and 8 Active Schools Co-ordinators (Secondary) who co-ordinate the sports programmes in the Secondary schools. For more information on the co-ordinators please see the After School Clubs section.
The aims of Active Schools are achieved by focusing on the following areas:
-
active travel
-

-
