Cycle Training

Cycle Training within Falkirk Council is a joint venture between Education and Development services. The high quality training is delivered by qualified and experienced cyclists.

The aims of the venture are:

  • To increase the number of children cycling to school
  • To improve the health of the population through physical activity
  • To promote active travel; a shift to a more sustainable method of travel
  • Promote confidence, wellbeing and inclusion at all stages of ability and development
  • Develop road awareness and risk management through structured on-road training

The instruction is progressive; the children learn basic bike skills and control under the Ready Steady Bike scheme, then progress onto Scottish Cycle Training Scheme or as it other wise known cycle proficiency.

Once the minimum criterion has been achieved pupils then have the opportunity to participate in supervised on-road training. This on-road training is carried out in a risk assessed area in a quite location building confidence on the bike.

The final part of the training is to use these skills to undertake journeys.
