The Scottish Executive, the Scottish Arts Council and local authorities jointly fund the Cultural Co-ordinators in Scottish Schools Programme.
The aim of the programme in general terms is to:

increase and enhance participation in a wide range of cultural activities

change the perceptions of the value of the arts and culture in the Scottish schools system

help develop new professional capabilities at the education/culture interface

help contribute towards enhanced levels of achievement in Scottish schools
Gayle Martin is employed within Falkirk Council Education Services as a Cultural Co-ordinator supporting all educational establishments and also manages the Youth Music Initiative. Gayle's role is:

work strategically across all educational establishments to encourage and facilitate cultural participation through a variety of productions, projects, performances and visits

liase with artists and education officers of cultural organisations and both local and national level

develop local authority and school awareness of the potential contribution of culture to young peoples learning and development, both within and outwith the curriculum
