Blackness Primary School is a non-denominational primary school, situated within the rural village of Blackness, which is located to the east of the Falkirk, approximately 3 miles from the town of Bo'ness.

Aims of Blackness Primary School

  1. We aim to create a happy, positive atmosphere where:
  • children and staff can work to the best of their ability
  • the views of children, parents and staff are listened to
  • children, parents and staff feel valued and respected as individuals
  • visitors are welcomed to the school
  • all members of the school community are encouraged to work co-operatively
  1. We aim to provide a broad, balanced and appropriate curriculum for all our pupils by:
  • encouraging each child to achieve his/her full potential
  • using a variety of teaching approaches
  • planning and assessing effectively
  • making use of relevant resources to do this
  1. We aim to encourage pupils to have positive attitudes towards themselves and others by:
  • building their self-esteem
  • using a positive discipline policy
  • developing their respect for others
  1. We aim to foster in children an awareness of the need to care for their environment by:
  • developing a sense of pride in their school
  • promoting a sense of responsibility for their community
  • appreciating the importance of environmental issues and the world community
  1. We aim to become involved in the life of the community and to welcome the community to share in the life of our school by:
  • welcoming members of the community in to visit our school
  • inviting relevant community members to help curricularly
  • using the local community as a resource in our Environmental Studies programmes
  • encouraging school events which involve the community
