The Director of Finance is responsible for the Council’s statement of accounts, which present fairly the financial position of the auhority at the accounting date and its income and expenditure for the financial year.
In preparing the statement of accounts, the Director of Finance has to:

select suitable accounting policies and then apply them consistently

make judgements that are reasonable and prudent

comply with the accounting code of practice.
The Director of Finance has also to:

keep proper accounting records, which are up to date

take reasonable steps to prevent and detect fraud and other irregularities.
