Until late 2005, the compulsory retirement age in the Scheme varied depending on rank as follows:

age 55 - all ranks from Firefighters to Station Officers

age 60 - Assistant Divisional Officers and above
From late 2005, there is no compulsory retirement age, but the common normal retirement age is 55.
