You can join the Firefighters Pension Scheme if you are engaged as a "regular" firefighter before 6th April, 2006.
To be a regular firefighter you must be a whole time or part time member of a fire and rescue authority brigade who is required to engage in fire-fighting.
When you first become a regular firefighter with Central Scotland Fire and Rescue Service, you will automatically be entered into the Scheme unless you state in writing that you do not wish to join.
If you are a Retained Firefighter you cannot join the Scheme, although some Scheme benefits would be available if you were killed or injured in duty.
