Prosecutions for 2007/8

During the period 1st April 2007 to 31st March 2008, three claimants were successfully prosecuted and found guilty of committing benefit Fraud.

These claimants claimed benefit that they were not entitled to and now have criminal records.

The amount of benefit they claimed that they were not entitled to was:

  • A single person failed to declare to us that she had a pension from a former employer and was overpaid a total of £13906 HB/CTB. She was given 150 hours Community Service.
  • A lone parent failed to declare that her partner lived with her to both Falkirk Council and Job Centre Plus and was overpaid £1140 HB/CTB and £1213 Income Support. She was admonished after pleading guilty.
  • A claimant failed to declare to us that his wife was working and was overpaid a total of £2144 HB/CTB.  Sentencing was deferred for 9 months to monitor the repayment of the sum due.
