Dawson Initiative

The Dawson Initiative is an exciting partnership between the local community, Falkirk Council, Communities Scotland, Link Group and a range of other organisations.

The objective of the project is "to make Dawson one of the best places in Scotland to grow up, work and live".

The project will achieve this by implementing a comprehensive regeneration strategy for the Langlees/Bainsford neighbourhood.  This is by far the largest Social Inclusion Area in Falkirk and comprises an extensive post war housing estate about 1 mile North of Falkirk Town Centre. The estate includes blocks of flats, some of which are now derelict or difficult to let. The population declined from 6,516 in 1971 to an estimated 3,761 in 1992.

Derelict properties are being demolished or refurbished, new homes are being built, community facilities are being improved, and residents are fully involved in all aspects of the decision making process.

The Dawson Initiative project is co-ordinated by a Partners Group, and individual projects are taken forward by five Working Groups, which include strong Community Representation.

The ethos of the Dawson Initiative is:

  • caring for people
  • phenomenal effort
  • striving for excellence
  • focus on our vision
  • no fear of failure
  • partnership
  • "ane for a'"
