Support for people with a sensory impairment

Falkirk Council works in partnership with Stirling Council to deliver a range of specialist social work services to people with sensory impairment living in the Falkirk Council area, their carers, families and related service providers.

Our aim is to provide a 'one door' point of access for blind, partially sighted, deaf, hard of hearing and deafblind people of all ages, in one location.

We aim to promote and enable peoples' continuing independence, minimise risk and reduce the effects of isolation and anxiety.

Falkirk Council delivers:

  • assessment
  • specialist rehabilitation and training services
  • sign language interpreting services
  • transcription into braille, CD or tape
  • information and translation
  • advice
  • equipment provision
  • support worker service

The service is delivered from the Forth Valley Sensory Centre in Camelon, Falkirk, which is a centrally located, purpose-built environment specifically designed to meet the needs of the local community.

The team at the Sensory Centre consists of:

  • a team manager
  • a senior social worker
  • a  deaf development and information worker
  • 3 rehabilitation workers
  • 2 social workers in the eye clinic
  • 2 social care officers
  • a senior support worker
  • an admininstration co-ordinator
  • a clerical assistant
