What is a renewal of marriage vows ceremony?
This ceremony is for married couples who wish to celebrate renewing their marriage vows in a unique and personal ceremony. The Ceremony could be to celebrate a special anniversary such as tenth or twenty-fifth, but the ceremony is just as appropriate at any stage of marriage. Many couples who marry abroad choose to renew their marriage vows in a special ceremony held for family and friends on their return.

Who can have the ceremony?
Any married couple of any age and married for any length of time, can arrange a renewal of marriage vows ceremony. It does not matter if you do not live in the area where you want your ceremony.
Does the ceremony have any legal status?
No. The ceremony has no legal status and is not legally binding on those who participate.
Does the ceremony have any religious content?
No. The ceremony is purely secular (non-religious).
Where can the ceremony take place?
The ceremony can be held:

within a Falkirk Council marriage/ceremony room

within the designated area of a Venue (i.e. hotel)

within a building that has been licensed to hold civil marriage ceremonies (a full list of ceremony rooms and approved licensed venues is available from the Ceremonies Co-ordinator)

A £75 deposit (non-refundable) is payable on booking a renewal of marriage vows ceremony.

Is there a certificate?
A souvenir certificate is signed at the end of the ceremony by the couple, two witnesses and the ceremony officer.
How long does the ceremony last?
