Falkirk Council's Retention and Disposal Schedule identifies types of recorded information held by Services of the Council, the length of time each type of information should be retained for administrative purposes and what happens to the information at the end of the retention period, i.e. destroy or transfer to the Council Archives for permanent preservation.
One of the objectives of the Records Management and Preservation of Archival Records Policy is to ensure all records for destruction are destroyed within the retention schedule of the Council and in agreement with the Council Archivist. The Policy also includes the responsibilities of the Records Manager, Archivist, Corporate Records Team and Services in relation to retention.
This schedule will be updated according to Acts of Parliament, Statutory Instruments and current business practices. It carries the authorisation of the Corporate Management Team. Any additions, deletions, amendments or queries should be forwarded to the Records Manager, Law & Administration Services.
It is important to remember, when destroying information in relation to the Retention and Disposal Schedule, that information requested under the provisions of the Freedom of Information (Scotland) Act 2002, or under any investigation by Police or Internal Audit, all destruction procedures on the information concerned must cease immediately.
