Case Studies

Small Grants

The Small Grants fund tends to give small amounts of money (normally up to £2,000) to fund activities from local groups that benefit the Community.

The projects need to meet one of the 3 priorities of the grant: People, Place and Partnership.

For example, one of the groups funded, provides memory stick players and weekly audio versions of The Falkirk Herald to blind and visually impaired people in the Falkirk area. These recordings keep listeners informed of what is happening in the area, without having to rely on family and friends, increasing their independence and fighting isolation. This project meets the Partnership priority, supporting the Council's approach to early intervention by providing services so that people can live full, independent, and positive lives.

School Holiday Food Fund

The School Holiday Food Fund 2022 (Summer programme) was a successful initiative that provided food and fun to many children in the Falkirk area.

Two Ukrainian families who had just arrived in Falkirk and had no or limited knowledge of English were involved in one of the initiatives funded by School Holiday Food Fund. Their children soon played and laughed with other children; they made new friends and could start the new school year already knowing some schoolmates. The positive impact that the activity had on their children is evident in the feedback of one of the mothers:

"We have been in Stenhousemuir for only 2 weeks from Ukraine, thank you for your beautiful picnic. Will you have another one?" (Mother of a 5-year-old child)

When asked 'Can you tell us some of your favourite memories from the summer?’ A young boy answered:

"The beach, zoo and everything. I am just happy to be here."

The group added:

"He spoke about feeling accepted for the first time. He had struggled socially and had been extremely isolated, due to bullying."
