Most of the children who need adoptive parents have had difficult life experiences such as neglect, abuse and drug withdrawal in infancy. These early experiences have lifelong effects.
There are now very few babies available for adoption and all applicants would be expected to consider some degree of the following:
-
children with varying degrees of emotional disturbance and difficult behaviour
-
sibling groups
-
children with learning or physical disabilities
-
children with an uncertain developmental profile or where little is known about their background
-
children who need to retain some contact with their birth families
