How does the Falkirk Child Protection Committee work?

Children jumping
Falkirk Child Protection Committee meets every two months. Much of the work plan of the CPC is done by sub-committees.

Currently we have three sub-committees:

  • Communications Sub-Group
  • Training Sub-Group
  • Monitoring and Audit Sub-Group

An important aspect of working across Forth Valley is the sharing of knowledge, skills and expertise, not just with other councils but with partner agencies such as the police, health and the voluntary sector. We also work together to develop procedures, protocols and inter-agency training.

You can download our Child Protection Committee leaflet (PDF, 129KB)| for more information.

The main guidance for all agencies involved in child protection is found in the Inter-Agency Child Protection Guidelines (PDF, 383KB|). These apply to all agencies and are backed up by a variety of protocols. Child protection is an evolving area as our understanding of risk to children changes with changes in society. The protocols, which work alongside the Inter-Agency Procedures, reflect this.

There are current protocols on:

  • children of arrested persons
  • children affected by parental substance misuse
  • young people involved in underage sexual activity

Other protocols are in the process of being developed.
