How do I get a children and families service?

Most families experience difficulties and stress at some point in their lives. This can mean that some children, young people and their families need help and support from us.

To access our Children and Families Service please contact your local social work office| and ask to speak to the duty social worker in the Children and Families Team.

The duty social worker will take some details from you and undertake an initial assessment. The duty social worker may be able to give you immediate advice and support and this might mean that no further assistance will be required. The duty social worker may give you information regarding helpful services provided by other agencies such as health or education services.

If a more detailed assessment is required to assess your child's and/or the whole family's needs, the duty social worker will speak with the team manager to arrange for a fuller assessment, an integrated assessment, to be undertaken.

Confidentiality

Social Work staff members recognise the need for confidentiality. They may find it helpful to discuss your needs with other care professionals or members of your family but they will ask for your permission first. If there are any details you do not want to be disclosed, they will normally respect your wishes, unless someone would be placed at risk by doing so.
