People going to Home from Home groups will have different reasons for being there and each will get different things out of the day. Everyone who uses the service will have received a diagnosis concerning their memory loss and/or confusion. The carer will have a special understanding of what that involves and will be especially sensitive to both physical and emotional health.
What does the service provide?
We aim to provide a day that will enable people to enjoy the everyday things in life, such as sharing a meal, chatting, enjoying the garden and going out. We also try and find out the very personal preferences, hobbies and skills of each individual group member and provide opportunities for these to continue and develop. New experiences and activities will also be on offer, but the emphasis will be on choice and enjoyment.
The most important factor is the opportunity to meet with others having similar experiences, which can therefore provide you with the opportunity to develop friendships and support.
We hope that within the small group everyone will feel valued and listened to. The lunchtime meal is always an important part of the day when everyone sits down together and enjoys the food that has been prepared.
The day usually lasts between 10.00am and 3.00pm and transport will be available from your home, either by taxi or with a voluntary driver in a private car. If you would like someone to accompany you in the car, this can be arranged.
