Our services for younger people aim to provide services for people who develop dementia before aged 65. We are aware of the unique needs of younger people who have dementia and of the impact upon their carers and family.
Project worker
A project worker is employed full time to offer guidance and support to younger people with dementia and their carers. Please contact us for more details of the services she can provide.
One-to-one support and counselling
This service, which is provided by a counsellor, the project worker, community psychiatric nurses and care managers, offers on-going one-to-one support and counselling for the person with dementia, their carers and the wider family, if required.
Support workers
Our two support workers can spend approximately 4–5 hours with the person with dementia on a weekly basis. Their role is to offer social contact and stimulation to those with dementia, to help them maintain skills and interests, and to help them to stay in employment, if possible.
Second Wednesday Group
This is a social group enabling members to meet and organise various social events and outings. The group meets from 12.00–2.00pm.
Information and advice
Our project worker is available to offer information and advice to people with dementia and their carers. We also have a library with a wide range of resources from which you can borrow literature, tapes, videos and DVDs.
Leisure group for partners
This group, which is organised for partners/carers, usually takes place over the winter months. Various activities are organised and include art therapy, stress management and relaxation. It has been proven to be very enjoyable and further activities will be introduced in the future.
Further information
