How much will I have to pay for a Community Care service?

You don’t have to pay anything for an assessment or to receive advice from a member of the Community Care Team, and you will not have to pay for services delivered to you in your own home, except for meals on wheels. Please see the 'What kind of care and support can I get?'| section for further details.

There may be a charge for short breaks/respite care services away from home.

If you are assessed as requiring long-term care, you may be entitled to financial assistance, depending on your financial circumstances, to help pay the fees.

If you are aged 65 or over and paying your own care home fees, you may be entitled to the national free personal and/or nursing care rates, currently £145 and £65 respectively, to help towards the cost of your stay in a care home.

If you are under aged 65 you may be entitled to the national free nursing care rate, currently £65, to help towards the cost of your stay in a care home.

Entitlement to this financial assistance is based on your care needs and not your financial circumstances. The rate of payment, if any, will be determined by the assessment of your care needs which is undertaken by a social worker, occupational therapist, or other care professional.
