We currently have a range of ways to help people in our communities who have been affected by COVID-19, or are struggling with the financial impact of it.

Support for people helpline

The Support for people helpline can provide access to food, medicines/prescriptions and other essential services for those who are affected by COVID-19 and have no other means of doing this.

Individuals can refer themselves.

Other services/organisations can refer a person to the service. However the helpline will check that you have the persons permission to make the referral.

Test & Protect calls

We are provided with details of people who have been asked to self-isolate by NHS Scotland Test and Protect. Outbound telephone calls are made to ensure they have essentials to allow them to self-isolate for the required time.

A £75 fuel payment to assist self-isolation may be available, depending on qualifying criteria.

Individuals cannot refer themselves to this service. We only take referrals from Test and Protect. However, the Support for people helpline provides the same kind of assistance.

Other services/organisations cannot refer a person to the service.

This service will run until at least the end of June 2021.


Self-Isolation Support Grant

A Self-Isolation Support payment of £500 is available to people who have been asked to self-isolate and are on a low income.

Individuals can refer themselves.

Other services/organisations can refer a person to this service.

One-off fuel payments

Payments of £100 have been made to people who have been identified as potentially having difficulty with their fuel bills over the winter period. This includes those on the shielding list, in off-gas areas, on the travelling persons site, and in temporary accommodation. They also need to be on a low income (Council Tax Reduction).

Those that that may be eligible will be sent a letter to advise of this, and then telephoned to discuss the qualifying criteria.

Individuals cannot refer themselves to the service. We identify people who potentially qualify from our records.

Other services/organisations cannot refer a person to the service.

We are currently working on allocating more of these payments, but this will be identified by our staff and letters then sent to them.


Debt Advice / Welfare Benefits

Help is available for anyone worrying about debt, struggling with money or needing help to claim welfare benefits through our Debt Advice and Welfare Benefits Teams.

Connectivity and Data Top-Ups

We are offering £25 payments to help people with the cost of staying connected online.

Individuals cannot refer themselves to this service. Referrals must be made by public or third sector organisations.

COVID-19 Digital Exclusion Fund

This fund was set up to support organisations with grants of up to £5000 to provide people they support with devices and connectivity. Applications to the fund closed in March 2021. The COVID-19 Digital Exclusion Fund page has more information.

Individuals could not refer themselves to the service. This fund was for organisations.

Other services/organisations cannot refer a person to the service. This fund was not for individual referrals.
