Following 12 months of negotiations, the Scottish Negotiating Committee for Teachers (SNCT) formally agreed a pay increase for Scotland’s teaching staff.

On April 25th, the SNCT agreed a three-year deal that will be paid in different stages as follows:

  • May: Those earning less than £80k will receive a 3% increase (backdated to April 1st, 2018) and those earning more than £80k will receive a flat-rate increase of £1600.
  • June: All teachers and associated professionals (no cap) will receive 3% from April 1st, 2019 (backdated until that date). In addition, all SNCT pay scales will increase by a further 4% (no cap) from April 1st, 2019 in order to implement the restructure of the main-grade pay scale and revaluation of all other salary scales.
  • April 2020: 3% effective from April 1st, 2020 payable across all pay scales and pay points (no cap).

Advice is available to teachers and associated professionals in receipt of Universal Credit who may be adversely affected by the pay award and backdated pay.
