First year modern apprentice Kyle Sneddon has met and overcome the challenges of lockdown by not only gaining his SVQ Level 2 in Business & Administration but becoming the first apprentice in the Council to do so.

Kyle (17), a former pupil of Bo’ness Academy, started with the Central Matching Team part of the Procurement & Commissioning Unit within Corporate & Housing Services in September 2019 based at the Forum.  Only six months later he was working from home in his bedroom carrying out his duties, studying and overcoming many distractions including his mum hoovering their home!

Despite this, Kyle has achieved his accreditation and has now started SVQ Level 3 in Business & Administration.

Kirsty Howarth, Kyle’s line manager said: “Kyle is a great asset to the Central Matching Team.  He is very hard working and always offers support and guidance to his colleagues.  He has put a lot of hard work into his SVQ units and has adapted to working from home really well.”

Merle Stevenson, Procurement Co-ordinator added: “As a key worker, Kyle has worked relentlessly with his colleagues to support the Council’s Care at Home and Community Care service delivery.  Demonstrating maturity and commitment, Kyle is the Council’s first apprentice to complete a Business & Administration SVQ while working from home and is a testament to what can be achieved as we move forward in new and improved ways of working.”

Kyle is full of praise for the help and support he received from Kirsty, Merle and his colleagues in the team.  “I’m also grateful to Tammy Davidson in the Employment Training Unit (ETU) and Emma Douglas my SVQ Assessor from GP Strategies, both have given me fantastic support.

“I’ve also taken part in an online session along with ETU and other local Councils promoting training opportunities available to young people across the Forth Valley area.  I spoke about my apprenticeship journey.  It was really good fun!  I thoroughly recommend working with ETU, they help find the best opportunities for you.”
