Monday 19 September, the date of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II’s State Funeral will be a national bank holiday.

Workforce arrangements are outlined below:

  • All Council offices, schools and other buildings will be closed to the public.
  • Limited essential services will continue to be delivered and employees delivering these services will be required to work.
  • All other employees will not be required to work.

Essential services

Similar to arrangements at Christmas, it is anticipated that only essential life or limb services will operate.

If you have to work on 19 September

Your line manager will let you know if you’re required to work and normal public holiday arrangements for pay and time off in lieu will apply in line with the relevant terms and conditions for your staffing group.

Calculating entitlement for non-standard working arrangements/part-time

If you don’t normally work on a Monday, you will receive pro-rata entitlement for leave to be taken at an alternative time in line with service needs.

Leave for Monday needs to be calculated as the additional entitlement hasn’t been added to MyView. This also applies to those who work Monday to Friday but work a different number of hours each day eg compressed hours.

The calculation for this is:

7.4 (FTE for 1 day’s leave) / 37 hours (FTE) x working hours per week = hours leave due on 19th.

Recording your leave on MyView

A separate leave category has been added to MyView for this additional day.  Simply select paid special leave, then select Queen’s funeral/mourning leave from the drop-down box.

  • If you work full time Monday to Friday/same number of hours each day and are not required to work, you don’t need to request any leave on MyView.
  • Part-time employees should request the pro-rata amount of leave selecting the above category.  Where necessary, the balance of hours should be made up by using or requesting normal annual leave.
  • If you’re submitting annual leave to have the full day off, make sure that your part-day requests don’t overlap each other.
  • Any hours taken at an alternative date or time should be recorded on MyView under the paid special leave category.
  • If you work Monday to Friday but different hours each day or work compressed hours, you should follow the rules for part-time employees.

Pre-booked annual leave

Annual leave already booked for the 19th can be cancelled and the day taken at another time.
