To mark King Charles III’s Coronation on Saturday, 6 May, the Council’s Executive recently agreed to grant an additional public holiday on Monday, 8 May.

The usual 24/7 essential services provided by the Council will continue. However, all Council offices, schools and other buildings will be closed to the public.

Follow the steps below to record your leave on MyView.

Employees who work full-time

No action is needed if you work Monday to Friday, the same number of hours each day and are not required to work.

Employees who work part-time (non-term time)

You have had a pro-rata entitlement added to your leave balance.  You should request the correct number of hours that you would have worked on Monday 8 May in the same way you would for any public holiday that falls on your working day.

If you don’t normally work a Monday, you will see your leave entitlement increase to show your pro-rata share of this time.  You don’t need to request paid special leave for 8 May.  You can request to use your additional leave in the normal way on another date.

Employees who work compressed hours or term-time

Any full-time/term-time or compressed hours taken at an alternative date or time should be recorded on MyView under the paid special leave category.  A separate leave category has been added to MyView. Simply select paid special leave, then King’s Coronation from the drop-down box.

Calculating entitlement for non-standard working arrangements

Additional pro rata leave has been added to MyView for non term-time part-time employees.

If you work Monday to Friday and a different number of hours each day, for example compressed hours, a pro-rata entitlement needs to be calculated and requested on MyView as paid special leave.

If you don’t normally work on a Monday, you will receive pro-rata entitlement for leave to be taken at an alternative time in line with service needs.  If you work full-time, term-time or compressed hours you will need to request this using the paid special leave code.

The calculation for this is:  7.4 (FTE for 1 day’s leave) / 37 hours (FTE) x working hours per week = hours leave due on 8 May

If you’re required to work on 8 May

Your line manager will let you know if you’re required to work and normal public holiday arrangements for pay and time off in lieu will apply in line with the relevant terms and conditions for your staffing group.

Pre-booked annual leave

Annual leave already booked for the 8th can be cancelled and the day taken at another time.
