Business property across the Falkirk Council area is still in demand with the news that the final unit at the Council's new industrial development at Larbert's Central Business Park is under offer.

Work started on the five properties in December 2009 - each is 110 metres square and is part of the Council's Portfolio Management Plan (PMP) that aims to provide modern business accommodation to the local area and encourage business start up and expansion.

The site has attracted two local businesses - DMC Construction and FPM Maintenance as well as two Stirling based businesses (Matz Driving School and Phantom Executive) since it was completed in September 2010.

A report to a recent meeting of the Economic Strategy and Development Committee (21 September) also heard how the Council's business property portfolio was operating at a 95% occupancy rate and generated an income of nearly £5m.

Cllr Adrian Mahoney, Convener of Economic Strategy and Development said: ‘We have developed our portfolio management plan with the views of what businesses really need -modern fit for purpose properties at a variety of sizes to suit local needs.

‘To be able to announce full occupancy at this development the same month it is completed is a great achievement, especially in the current climate. The success is due to an excellent product located in a first class location."

'The PMP allows the disposal of parts of the Council's existing property portfolio The receipts generated from these sales will allow the Council to invest for the future by funding new developments that meet the needs of today's and tomorrows' businesses.

‘We're continuing to work on our PMP that will release more capital to allow us to develop even more opportunities for business to locate or expand in the Falkirk Council area and help us to boost the local economy with new jobs and investment.'

Currently the Council provides over 500 businesses with a mix of industrial, office and retail properties that employs around 4000 people.
