A restructuring of Council services was agreed by Falkirk Council at a meeting on 24 June which will result in savings of around £250k.

A report from Mary Pitcaithly, Chief Executive, set out a proposal to create three Services with multi-functional as well as corporate and strategic responsibilities and will result in a reduction of one service director.

This follows on from the decision in November to set up a new Children’s Service by bringing together the Council’s education functions with the children, families & criminal justice functions from social work.

In future social work’s adult service functions will deliver services for the new Health & Social Care Integration Partnership.

These proposals were presented to Members and will see the number of Council services consolidating to three, removing the need for a separate operational Chief Executive Office.

Council leader Craig Martin said: “The new slimline structure has been designed to support the Council through the challenges which lie ahead in delivering effective services at a time of reducing budgets. It is based on good practice for an organisation of the Council’s size, as well as structures within other Councils.

“This restructure will have very little direct impact on the day-to-day work of the majority of Council employees, other than that they may be working for a new department but it will result in a more cohesive, customer friendly and efficient organisation.”

Three senior posts will be deleted including Director of Social Work, a Head of Service post in Development Services and a Depute Chief Finance Officer.
