A new scheme that encourages outdoor enthusiasts to volunteer to help keep an eye on their local paths is being launched by Falkirk Council.

The Path Warden scheme is open to anyone over 18 who can volunteer four times a year to ‘patrol’ their dedicated route or path.

They will work with the existing outdoor access team in ensuring paths are accessible and safe and two days training would be provided that includes survey techniques, health and safety, first aid and information on local attractions.

Councillor Adrian Mahoney, spokesperson for Culture, Leisure and Tourism said: “The Falkirk area has a fantastic path network that connects many of our local attractions for visitors and local residents alike.

“We’re looking for enthusiastic individuals that enjoy the outdoors and can spare some time during each season to survey paths and undertake minor maintenance with tools that are provided.

“Their work would be invaluable in helping to support this great resource that so many enjoy and a great way to learn about the local environment.”

Induction and training will start in August and you can find out more by getting in touch with the outdoor rangers team on 01324 504950 or email rangers@falkirk.gov.uk
