109 new trees are being planted thanks to the effort of Falkirk Council’s Printworks team.

A new tender for the 30 tonnes of paper they use annually meant they were able to renegotiate with suppliers to offset their carbon dioxide levels used in the production process.

Manager Vince Whittet explained: “We had a conversation with our suppliers last year to see how we could tackle this issue.

“The new trees will cover nearly 700 square metres and help us offset approximately 28 tonnes of carbon dioxide that is produced in the manufacture of the paper.

The paper we use is Forest Stewardship Council assured meaning the trees come from managed sustainable forests offsetting the carbon taking our green credentials even further.

“It means that for our high end work we can ensure we retain the right environmental credentials as a responsible organisation.”

The team hope to look at other carbon offsetting methods with other suppliers in the future.
