Tuesday 23 March is one year since the first national lockdown. No one could imagine then how it would impact on all our lives.

The year that has passed has been long and challenging. We have lost so many family and friends and been unable to visit loved ones. The closure of so many businesses and the loss of countless jobs and the total disruption to our education system at all levels. Our communities have united in their support for the vulnerable ensuring those confined to their homes have been able to access food and other provisions.

None of us have escaped the ordeal of Covid-19, from the shock of having our liberty taken away to the heartbreak of losing someone we love.

We pay tribute to the many lives lost and the families that mourn them.

We pay tribute to the NHS who work tirelessly on the front line caring for those in need and also pay tribute to essential workers.

As the vaccine rolls out we are beginning to see a light at the end of this dark tunnel.

Stay safe
