Schools monitor pupil absence and lateness and work with families and pupils where
the level of absence is giving cause for concern.
If a pupil's attendance falls below 90% the school will contact parents / carers.
The school may also make a referral to the Attendance Panel if the child has failed
to attend school regularly without reasonable excuse.
The Attendance Panel is made
up of members of staff from Children's Services and the parent, pupil and pastoral
teacher will attend to discuss the reasons for absence.
Schools can also refer to the Children's Reporter if there are other issues of concern
regarding the welfare of the child.
